Ferberite with Tungstite$600.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
Mostly lustrous bladed crystals of ferberite to 0.4 cm in size across the top of matrix. Minor tungstite is present as well. This historical specimen is in good condition and comes with an antique label dating the piece to the very early 20th century if not earlier. These are shown at the end of the video. The specimen was originally acquired through American dealer Lazard Cahn in 1908. Mining at Nederland, Colorado began in the late 1860s after gold was found in Boulder County, and the town grew as a camp serving gold and silver mines in nearby mountains. Hard rock lode mining in the late 1800s and early 1900s focused on gold, silver, and associated minerals in veins around Caribou and other nearby districts. The arrival of the railroad in 1890 helped transport ore and supplies, but most commercial mining declined by the 1920s as deposits played out and costs rose. Today Nederland remains a small town known for its mountain history and access to former mining areas.
