Chalcocite
Cornwall is one of the few places in the world where excellent, well-defined, Chalcocite crystals have been found. Botallack mine, near St. Just is not the best known of Cornish occurrences for Chalcocite, although there have been a number of different mines where excellent discoveries have been made over the centuries. However, this toe-nail sized specimen from Malcolm Southwood's Collection is a really superb crystal aggregate, with clustered platy hexagonal crystals individually reaching to 1.2 cm across. With a classic deep indigo-blue to gun-metal grey colour and resinous to metallic lustre this piece looks great and is in fine overall condition.
