Hematite
This is a complete-all-around thin plate of intergrown hematite crystals, of volcanic origin long ago. This hematite is gorgeous, sparkly and lustrous like we cannot convey by photo (be sure to watch the video!). It actually consists of multiple generations, small crystals grown upon the original elongated and flat, elongated, "hexagon"-stye plates. The piece is from a highly unusual locality, a small mine near Mount Etna! Note that this is very different from other Italian hematites you will see; and we are lucky to have the (old) label from Brad van Scriver to confirm this, or I would have assumed it to be from some other locality, never having seen one of these larger than a thumbnail specimen for sale. (His price, by the way, was from the 1980s - a lot of money at the time for a hematite miniature, I would think.)
