Shattuckite
Described in 1915 as a new and beautiful blue copper silicate from Shattuck mine at Bisbee, Arizona, a new find a few years later at New Cornelia mine in Ajo District, Pima Co. produced equally, if not better, crystallized material, along with a new species Ajoite. This exceptional miniature specimen from New Cornelia mine is not only visually rich in intense blue Shattuckite, but it is a crystal-lined vug, filled with excellent silky acicular sprays. A paler, somewhat turquoise-blue mineral skirts the edges of the cavity and is possibly Ajoite. New Cornelia mine was a vast open pit operation, but closed in 1972, indicating that this is old-time material. A very rich miniature indeed.
