Carrollite on Calcite with Chalcopyrite

Kamoya South Il Mine, Kamoya, Haut-Katanga,

DR Congo

4.1 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm

Ex. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher

Carrollite is a rare copper cobalt nickel sulfide mineral which crystallizes in the hexoctahedral class system. Crystals of this quality were found in the 1990’s and were recognized as best in class. This specimen is a highly modified, lustrous metallic crystal on a matrix of Calcite. A small patch of brassy Chalcopyrite sits adjacent to the crystal, offering a nice the contrast to the silvery gray Carrollite.
