Aragonite
Aragonite from China. 21st Century.
Aragonite is a close relative to calcite, but forms under rarer conditions, and crystallized specimens are significantly scarcer. This extraordinary example is among the best-known of the species, with an intensely saturated sky-blue color. The shimmering luster, and unusually sculptural form, made of thick columns and rounded globes, give the piece a memorable aesthetic presence.
