Millerite
Discovered in 1964, Halls Gap in Lincoln County, Kentucky, USA, is a roadcut which has produced large quantities of Quart geodes, often filled with excellent examples of other mineral species. In the case of this miniature, the roughly 2.5 x 1 cm central vug is packed with hair-like acicular crystals of Millerite, a nickel sulphide. Crystals exceed at least 1 cm and form a dense, three-dimensional mat filling this mini geode. The geode walls are lined with tiny milky Quartz crystals with a sucrosic texture while the outer skin of the matrix is a greenish grey, fine grained siltstone tinted by Glauconite. A rich and excellent Millerite from the Halls Gap roadcut occurrence.\n
