A pleasing aggregate of quite distinctive 'chunky' Calcite crystals from Ladywash mine near Eyam in Derbyshire. The crystals are not perfect, but have many great features. As typical for the Derbyshire Orefield the Calcite is quite gemmy - transparent with a soft yellow tint. Comprising two main crystals, neither is undamaged, but both show superb crystal form, with well-defined crystal faces. The larger of the two crystals is a 'macle', where two scalenohedral crystals join in the centre, as a twin, but the back of one crystal termination is cleaved. A second crystal is terminated and shows only minor bruising. The specimen has the feel, and appearance of old-time specimens from Ladywash mine, but it is quite possible that it was collected during the 1970s (based on the numbering system on a label attached to it). A classic Derbyshire Calcite specimen.
