Nicknamed "2001: A Space Odyssey" because of the similarity of the pyrite crystal with the great monolith of the famous movie. Block of pegmatite consisting of smoky quartz crystals (several doubly terminated) and white albite blades, at the top of which is poised a huge perfect pyrite parallelepiped measuring 11.2 x 10.4 x 7.8 cm. The faces of the pyrite are smooth and have mirror luster. This piece gives an astonishing picture of the order (the pyrite crystal) sprung from the chaos (the matrix); it is also somewhat reminiscent of the first personal computers surmounted by their monitor. It is unusual to have a pyrite formed on pegmatite, let alone as well crystallized.
