Chrysocolla ps. after Malachite ps. after Azurite
A stunning and showy cabinet-size, double pseudomorph of intense sky-blue Chrysocolla replacing Malachite after Azurite and coated in Quartz, from a magnificent recent find in the Tenke-Fungurume area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in central Africa. The Tenke-Fungurume area delineates a 30 km copper-cobalt mineralised zone between Tenke hill in the NW and Fungurume hill in the SE of the Kolwezi mining district. This amazing specimen is characterised by the excellent quality of the pseudomorphed Azurite crystals and preferential coating of iron-tinged Quartz. The Azurite crystals, which have now completely disappeared, are preserved in high-definition by the Chrysocolla and inner core of Malachite. The Chrysocolla is a stunning intense sky-blue and throughout the base can be seen remnant bands of mid-leaf-green Malachite. The pseudomorphed crystals measure up to at least 4 cm long, and the largest most perfectly mimic the original tapering tabular Azurite crystal. The entire specimen is coated in a druse of micro-crystalline colourless Quartz which gives a magnificent sparkle. However, on this specimen a secondary coating of brownish-tan Quartz has coated the pseudomorphed faces from one side, indicating the 'way-up' of the specimen while in-situ. This is a stunning Chrysocolla after Malachite and Azurite from Kolwezi, one certainly of museum quality.
