Fluorite
Ladywash mine, above the village of Eyam in north Derbyshire, produced superb Fluorite over many years, a characteristic of which is its included sulphides. This first-class miniature is a beautifully representative specimen which entirely captures the essence of Ladywash mine. A rounded dome of cubic colourless Fluorites crystals, averaging 1 to 1.4 cm on edge, cover a nodular matrix of concentric mixed ore minerals which include Baryte, Chalcopyrite and Sphalerite. The Fluorite crystals are filled with disseminated micro-granules of Chalcopyrite, and successive stages of crystal growth are evident from phantoms delineated by denser and more aligned metallic inclusions. Although Bornite is not recorded from Ladywash (but it does occur in Derbyshire), what appear to be Bornite crystals, tarnished in its usual iridescent array peacock colours, are sparsely scattered over, and included in the Fluorite. A superb miniature of Ladywash Fluorite.
