Uchucchacua mine in Oyon Province has become one of Peru's most famous mines, having recorded seventy valid mineral species and is type locality to no less than ten species. The mine is situated in Lima Department, set in a spectacular mountainous landscape, just take a look at the photo of the mine on its mindat.org page. A superb, single rhombic Rhodochrosite crystal measuring 1.6 x 1.4 cm and up to 1.5 cm deep is beautifully perched on a typical dark black glassy matrix of what is thought to be Goethite and is surrounded by many 1 to 3 mm dodecahedral Fluorite crystals of semi-transparent pale pink. The Rhodochrosite is bright strawberry pink with some faces becoming slightly strawberry cream within their faces. This is an exceptionally fine small cabinet specimen of Rhodochrosite from Uchucchacua mine.
