Fluorite
This beautiful deep emerald-green Fluorite miniature is a wonderful example from Heights mine at Westgate in Weardale, County Durham. Although already one of Britain's iconic localities, this mine became even more well known when Peter Bancroft included it in his landmark book, 'Gem and Crystal Treasures' (1984). Two large gemmy Fluorite crystals, measuring approximately 2 and 2.5 cm on edge, are attached side-by-side and are surrounded with other much smaller crystals, but of the same stunning deep emerald green. Subtle colour zoning is apparent within the crystals, but in daylight the specimen comes alive with an amazing natural fluorescence of intense indigo, sky-blue and deep purple. Superb!
