Amber
A fabulous gemmy, richly coloured burnt toffee orange mass of Amber which has been polished into a hemispherical dome from the Goitsche Open Cast lignite mine at Bitterfeld, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. This long-closed quarry is now flooded, appearing on current maps as a large lake. Like two other important European Amber localities, Bitterfeld Amber is of Early to Mid-Eocene age. This is a fine example of Amber from this classic German locality and it is worth mentioning, contains no drilled holes for the purpose of threading a necklace or bracelet thread, as is often found in such pieces.
