Barite
Source special issue: self-collected-minerals, PDF page: 179. Label: Barite, 4.8 cm, from Aguathuna, Port au Port Peninsula, Newfoundland and Labrador. I first collected at this quarry in 1977, when I lived on the Island of Newfoundland. The barite location in the quarry is actually an ancient, ocean-bottom “white smoker” complete with giant wormhole castings and other fossils. Bill Plavac and I revisited the quarry in 2002 and collected many fine barite specimens, such as this one.
