Uranophane
Uranophane, 5 cm, from the Madawaska Faraday mine, Bancroft, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada. The Madawaska uranium deposit was discovered and staked in 1949 by A. H. Shore of Bancroft. It became well known among collectors for large, transparent gypsum crystals, grayish green to purple anhydrite, large honey-yellow calcite crystals, green and purple fluorite, beautiful yellow uranophane and rare beta-uranophane which are among the most sought after minerals from the mine. The one shown here was purchased from a local mineral shop in Havre de Grace, Maryland, around 1978.
