Emerald Beryl, Quartz
Emerald beryl with quartz crystals, 4.6 cm, from the Brumado mine, Bahia, Brazil. Emeralds were first found there around 1912, and were mined for about 20 years. Unfortunately, the gem field was eventually buried under extensive dumps from the Piraja magnesite pit, so Brumado emerald specimens are quite rare today. Will Johnson collection; Tom Spann photo. Reference: Cassedanne and Cassedanne (1978).
