Why Mibladen matters
Ask any collector where the world's best vanadinite comes from and the answer is almost always the same: Mibladen, near Midelt, Morocco.

The old lead mines of this district, on the high plateau between the Middle and High Atlas, produce crystals with a red color and glassy luster that few other localities can match.
We are based in Morocco and buy directly from the miners who work these deposits by hand. Here is what we have learned about choosing a good piece.
What to look for
- Color. The classic Mibladen color is a saturated red to red-orange. Brown or dull orange crystals are more common and less valuable. Deep, even color across the whole piece is the first thing to check.
- Luster. Top crystals look wet, almost like glass. Tilt the specimen under a light: the faces should flash sharply. Matte or frosted faces lower the grade.
- Crystal form. Vanadinite grows as hexagonal plates and barrels. Look for sharp edges, clean faces, and crystals that stand free from the matrix instead of lying flat or crowded together.
- Matrix and contrast. Red crystals on white barite are the most sought-after combination. Dark goethite or manganese oxide matrix gives a more dramatic, moody contrast. Both are classic. A balanced composition matters more than size.
- Damage. Vanadinite is soft (about 3 on the Mohs scale) and brittle. Check the tips and edges of the main crystals with a loupe. A small chip on the back is normal. Damage on the display face is not.
Caring for your specimen
- Keep it out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure can darken the crystals.
- Clean only with a soft air blower or a gentle rinse of water. Never use acids or ultrasonic cleaners.
- Vanadinite contains lead. Wash your hands after handling and keep it away from children and pets.
- Display it in a closed case if you can. Dust is hard to remove from fine crystals.

A trustworthy seller shows the exact specimen you will receive, photographed from several angles, with real dimensions and an honest note on any damage. Locality should be specific: "Mibladen, Midelt Province" tells you far more than "Morocco".
